Law defined by the Webster dictionary is a ‘binding custom-made or practice of a community’. It is ‘a rule of conduct or action recommended or officially acknowledged as binding or enforced by a managing authority’. Each land has its own law but the sole function of law is to integrate individuals and guarantee a cohesive bond among various strata of the society. Breaking law, therefore, is associated to threatening the integrity of the land.

From the ages of lawless lands of jungle where nature ruled male’s lives to the modern-day courts– the journey of law, regardless of its land of practice, is as rich and enduring as the trip of the mankind. Simply as humanity is still growing, advancing and breaking brand-new boundaries, the law that binds the mankind is also progressing constantly. Old rules are challenged; new laws are born guaranteeing the wellness of the land and the people who live off and on it.

The concept of law has been debated for ages– from the 1500s among the greats like Francis Bacon, Voltaire, Rousseau, Montesquieu to David Tone to the modern day judges and lawyers, law has been suggested and reargued again and once again so that all points of time– it is the success of the mankind, what is excellent and simply and not the victory of an individual. This law might differ from land to land but the standard human sense of justice and truth prevails regardless of geographical borders. So in essence laws of all lands are more or less similar.

Law is symbolized by the blind-folded lady– the factor being law does not see who remains in front of it, however practices it similarly for all. Law can be categorized under many categories– Civil law for instance laws connected to land, home, households and societies, Constitutional law associated with the constitution of the land, Crook laws involving the laws to curb the criminal activities in the society, Human Rights, Environment, Management law, International law and so on etc. Based upon the nation, the judiciary system of law varies, the structure and the power appointed to the judiciary system likewise differs accordingly. In countries ruled by military power or under some monarchies, typically the judiciary lies with the governing power and is ruled out as an independent body as in numerous democracies.

The practicing lawyers usually specialize in one of the classifications of law. How one practices law and how the law is maintained in a society depends upon individuals’s values of principles and moral. Nevertheless as St. Augustine had famously stated ‘An unjustified law is not a law at all’, while a law-abiding consumer must follow the unwritten laws, he/she should likewise stand versus the law that is unfair and immoral.
